Summary
We Become What We Behold
- In week five of the service series, Pastor Jonathan explained that what we regularly watch shapes what we consider normal, what we value, and ultimately who we become.
- Using children learning to walk as an example, he described how observation leads to imitation and repeated practice. Becoming like Jesus begins with giving Him our attention and allowing His grace to transform us.
God Welcomes Us into His Family
- Through Galatians 4 and Ephesians 1–2, Pastor Jonathan emphasized that Jesus brings us from being distant strangers to being God’s beloved children.
- Jesus modeled this closeness by sharing everyday life with His disciples, even through conflict and betrayal. God offers that same belonging to us, regardless of our family background.
Service Can Grow into Shared Life
- Service begins with loving those already around us and extends through volunteering and meeting practical needs.
- Pastor Jonathan challenged the church to take another step: welcome someone into genuine relationship. This could mean inviting a lonely coworker to Thanksgiving, supporting a college student far from home, or making room at the family table.
- The invitation is to discern whom God is placing in our lives, according to our season and capacity.
Love Requires Vulnerability—and Transforms Us
- Drawing people close costs time, comfort, and sometimes money. It also means allowing ourselves to be known and accepting the possibility of rejection.
- Pastor Jonathan shared how Pastor Mike and Renee welcomed his wife, Vivi, as an exchange student and offered her the choice to be a guest or family. Choosing family helped heal her brokenness and ultimately changed his life too.
- Such relationships transform both people, replacing fear and judgment with understanding, dignity, and love.
The Invitation
- Pastor Jonathan closed by encouraging the church to ask the Holy Spirit whom they should draw close, especially during the holidays when many people feel alone.
- A simple act of obedience—opening our table and sharing our lives—can give someone a place to belong and change their future.
